So What is a Heat Pump?

Working like a fridge in reverse, a Heat Pump extracts solar heat from the humidity in the atmosphere. Because of this it does not need direct sunlight to work, just good airflow to extract the heat from the air running across the evaporator fin coils.

Heat Pump hot water is energy-efficient in all climatic conditions between minus 5 and plus 45 degrees C, even when it is raining and even at night.

A Siddons heat pump is the best option when you are upgrading your hot water system – it works in all climatic conditions, in the rain and at night, and is an ideal appliance to use your low cost Photo Voltaic electricity.

What are they and how do they Work?

Electric heat pumps work on the same principle as your refrigerator, but instead of pumping heat out of the fridge to keep it cool, they pump heat into water. Electricity is used to pump a refrigerant around the system, which picks up heat from the air and transfers it to the water. Easy.

A heat pump can always guarantee you hot water!

Due to the fact that a heat pump extracts solar heat from the air, it is able to work effectively in full sun and high temperature as well as in low temperatures, when it’s raining and even at night, perfect in our Queensland climate.

How Heat Pumps Work - Siddons Heat Pump

Save up to 75% of your water heating costs with a Heat Pump.

With the rising costs of electricity and gas, it’s now more important than ever to consider energy efficiency when choosing your hot water system. Heat pumps are the most energy efficient units on the hot water market and can reduce your home energy costs by an average of 70%. A heat pump water heater uses about 1/3 to 1/4 of the power of an electric element water heater gaining approximately 25% more efficiency through shorter run time with every 10 degree rise in the ambient air temperature.

Total Water Heating Cost Comparison over 10 Years
Siddons Solarstream water heaters will operate on off-peak and day tariff control, so your hot water is never switched off when you need it most, on those cold winter nights. Due to the low running cost and simplicity of installation, cost recovery for an average family is around 3-6 years.

Heating Hot Water accounts for 25% of your home’s energy needs.

%

Total Water Heating Costs

As shown in the bar graph water heating accounts for, on average, one quarter (25%) of energy usage in Australian homes.
  • Heating & Cooling 40% 40%
  • Water & Heating 25% 25%
  • Other Appliances 13% 13%
  • Fridges & Freezers 8% 8%
  • Lighting 6% 6%
  • Stand-By Power 4% 4%
  • Cooking 4% 4%

But what about Solar Panels?

The Siddons Solarstream offers considerable advantages over Solar Panels:

  • Around 50% cheaper to install
  • No excessive weight on the roof and building structure to be considered
  • No large intrusive and often unsightly panels to consider or position
  • Exposure to the sun is not required (it uses heat from the air)
  • The water tank is fully insulated and corrosion resistant
  • No electric booster element is required
  • The Solarstream works efficently day and night, winter or summer

Low Noise & Maintenance

Heat pumps are renowned for being exceedingly quiet units and Siddons Heat Pump operates at just 48 dBa. And other than keeping the unit clean there is nothing else for you the home owner to do. Just relax and enjoy your hot water.

Performance & Savings

Right from the minute you switch on the Siddons Solarstream, your savings begin. Exhaustive tests have shown that savings in hot water energy costs of greater than 75% are consistently achieved. In ambient air of 20° C the Solarstream can heat 327 litres of water from cold up to 50° C in just over 2 hours, and 60° C in just over 3 hours using less than 4kWh (around 50 cents) and drawing just 4 amps. In comparison with a standard electric water heater, this would use four times as much power. For maximum demand, the Solarstream can continuously produce over a 100 litres of hot water per hour. This makes a Solarstream Heat Pump System a very smart choice for homes fitted with spa baths or large soak tubs.

Already have an existing system? Why not get a “BOLT-ON” solution

Siddons Bolt-On Heat Pumps
The BOLT-ON is a new and brilliantly designed heat pump that works with any storage tank, new or existing, night or day. Why pay for a new storage tank if your current tank still has life in it, even though its heater may not work or is too expensive to run?
Click on the video above to learn how a BOLT-ON could save you money and the environment.
And because the BOLT-ON is energy-efficient, it’s much cheaper to operate than electric element or gas bottle water heaters. For a family of two adults and two kids, you can save up to 75% of your hot water costs or around $600 per year, savings that will increase as the cost of electricity and gas increases.

The BOLT-ON does not need an electric element, gas burner or condenser coil from the storage tank to help it heat, so you can buy it on its own and bolt it onto your existing storage tank.

Not just for hot water!

Siddons Home heat pumps work effectively in air as cold as -15℃ and in the rain and at night making heat for both hydronic space heating and hot water up to 80℃, or the 3 in1 units can go into reverse cycle and provide cold water at 8℃ for efficient air conditioning through fan coil units. They work so well, they only require single phase power to produce hydronic heating or cooling for your home.

Pool & Spa Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps - Pool & Spa Heat Pumps
Siddons together with its partner Macon has developed a broad range of heat pumps for water heating and space heating and cooling. These heat pumps are in operation all around Australia as well as overseas, including very cold areas of Northern Europe and North America. Importantly, they are designed to work effectively in Australia’s harsh climatic conditions and its coldest winters.

The Siddons Solarstream pool/spa heat pump is up to 400% more efficient than gas and up to 600% more effective than an electric element. The single-phase heat pumps will heat a pool up to 50,000 litres. Beyond this volume, a range of three-phase heat pumps are available.

Pool/spa heat pumps are ideal for matching with Solar PV to run the heat pump during the day using your own power.

Why do we trust and recommend Siddons Products?

The Siddons name has been synonymous with manufacturing excellence in Australia for more than 70 years. The iconic Sidchrome spanner business, then located in the Melbourne suburb of Clifton Hill, was founded by the late Royston Siddons prior to World War II to assist in the war effort. Siddons put the first heat pump water heater onto the Australian market in 1983, known as the Siddons Solar Plus, and has since moved into solar hydronic heating, cooling and water heating systems.
